Save of the Day
And I am not talking football (soccer) here. I made up 2 ash boxes and a mahogany one at the same time. With a broken bandsaw (now working after 3 switch changes) I could not cut the last pair of mahogany tops/bases for the mahogany box. I had a 1" mahogany rail that I wanted to use, so I hand planed the 2 faces, then used the school bandsaw to cut into 3/8" slabs. They ended up bowed, rubbish blade and bandsaw. I should have waited until my bandsaw was repaired. Too thin to plane easily, I glued them to the mahogany box. After drying, they looked really bad. I hand planed one to flatness, but the second was more tricky. So I fitted the Wagner Safety planer and did it in about 3 minutes. What a great tool at (times), and I still have all my fingers and have never had an accident or failure with this tool. Must remember to plane flat boards in future.
