If you are a "Craftsman Club" member, till I think the first week in Feb.

Anyway, I used to have a 14"er with riser block tuned up real nice till circumstances made us part our ways a few years ago. So my thinking was to find a used 14" saw, tune it up and dedicate it to woodworking, then some time later, pick up a 10" saw for cutting aluminum or smaller stock. Looked around locally, found a canidate... just a little too much -$250 for a used Jet, so didn't pull the trigger. Had to go to Sears this weekend and decided to check out what they had, basically glossed over their 14" model but the 10" caught my eye... and it was only $199. Figured it would be good to compare so I headed over to my local WoodCraft, and they had a Jet 10" Band Saw w/ Stand, Model JWBS-10OS Price: $299.99, and a Rikon 10" Bench Top Bandsaw Price: $279.99. I decided to pass and ponder...

Well, this morning I had to go back to pick something up at Sears, and the fella told me that their 10" saw that I had looked at was $169 for members. I said what the hey... sign me up! I've heard conflicting reports as to whether or not it's a re-branded Rikon, but to my eye, it looks like a knock-off to me... pretty darned close, except the Rikon has steel doors, and the Craftsman has plastic doors... no biggie. Other than that, same 3.5 amp motor, cast iron table top, steel frame, wheel brush, roller guides for the blade, etc. Just popped it out of the box, and it looks pretty close to being able to use it with very little assembly required.

I kinda swore off the Craftsman/Sears brand a while back, but this is not the fit and finish that I swore off before... gotta see how she runs... :)
