With a left tilt you would not have to move the fence to the other side of the blade for a safer operation. You can use the right side measurement & table length for support of wider pieces as in normal use. You do not want to trap your material between the blade & the fence. The only place for the material to go is right back at you. The material gets pinched between the blade, fence, & tabletop. You want to tilt the blade away from the fence for a safer miter cut. Most table saws have more table to the right of the blade which allows wider cuts.
Have a nice & safe day!
