Default Guitar building questions..

I've been considering building myself a solidbody electric guitar. It seems pretty straightforward, and for the most part, I can imagine/understand how things go together. Has anybody here built one before? I have a few questions and could use some tips. Thanks!

I have built over a hundred solid electric guitars and basses. Read up as much as you can, books, magazines and the internet. Look and study catalogues, handle real guitars, get a feel for what you are after. Select nice wood and parts, you needn't spend a lot, but you will spend less if you buy a manufactured guitar, but that is not the point. You will need a router, drill press, bandsaw and some handtools, plus about 80 hours. Look at www.edroman, www.stewmac, www.zacharyguitars. The best book I can recommend to start with is probably "Make Your Own Electric Guitar" by Melvyn Hiscock. Have fun.

Also spend some time on www.MIMF. Take factory tours on youtube of Gibson/Fender etc. www.warmouth has some twists, read and study, look and feel. Develop your own style, rather than just copy a design.. Be creative not a clone.. I love telecasters, but make them semi acoustic with body relief, different pickups and controls, with subtle design changes, and a range of natural timbers.

Books REQUIRED: Guitar repair gude by D.Erwine.(This has necessary info on Acoustic+Electric gtr set up) a must have!
MAKE your own Elec Gtr & Bass by D.Waring & D.Raymond.(this book includes a NECK thru Body style)
ELECTRIC GUITAR Construction by T.Hirst(Basic & simple info+electric diags.)
Tip:-Construct a BOLT ON NECK GTR as first project...More advanced is the SET NECK style.
Preparation gives you the end result. The gtr Set up is methodical but once memorised you quicken up.
You can construct with basic tools. But for the FRET WORK,you must purchase a specific FRET "CROWN" the frets.a good straight edge & patience.Use the books for reference, some are more detailed than others..But info from start/finish is within all of them.
