Default Hitachi m12v speed problem?

For the second time the speed control is going on my M12V . The first was within warranty and the router is now three years old . Does anyone know if this is a common problem ? Does anyone know if Hitachi have ever done anything to rectify it ( an upgrade maybe?) I spotted a thread with regard to bypassing it , but I need the lower speed ability for some operations ! HELP ! SOMEONE . PLEASE !

Hi alan:

I've been watching this sit around and figure I'll give it another kick. I have two M12Vs and neither suffer the malady that you report. But, both mine are 120V. Hopefully one of the electric types will add their comment.

Hello Allthunbs .
I've bitten the bullet and fitted a new speed control , at 81-00 GBP ! Ouch! Just for the part (I fitted it) . Relatively straight forward soldering and insulating job . There are some people advocating direct wiring , bypassing the control , but that does away with the soft start , which I like . My old 4 horse Ryobi didn't have it and that was a pig when it kicked in ! There does seem to be a quite a few people out there with the same thing going on though . I think it will be back to Makita after this !
Alan .
