Default Jointer question - width of tool itself.

I have limited space for storing my tools.

Grizzly shows their jointer as 27 1/2" wide.
Are they accounting for the knobs etc. that stick out the side?

Grizzly's G0452 6" Jointer

Can someone measure theirs?

I can handle the length I think. I don't know about the width of the tool itself.

Thanks!!

Ralph, is this a storage issue or a in use issue? You will need more room on each end to use the tool.

Ralph...

a good bit of that width comes from the postioning mechanism used for the fence.

Ralph,

my Ridgid 6" is about 22 inches wide, and the Grizzly guide tube looks to extend further out behind the fence than my jointer does. The 27 inch measurement is probably from the end of the guide tube to the rabbeting ledge.

The base of my jointer with the mobile base on it is around thesame 22 inch width, I don't know about the Grizzly.

If you're wanting to see one up close, grizzly may be able to put you in contact with someone nearby who owns the machine.

From the Grizzly website
"Where can I see your machines?

You can see our machines at one of our three retail stores located in Springfield, MO, Muncy, PA and Bellingham, WA. You can also call our Order Desk at (800) 523-4777 and ask the operator for a reference from someone who lives in your area that purchased the particular machine that interests you. Please be ready to provide the model number(s) of the machine(s) you are interested in and your zip code.
As far as we know, we are the only seller of woodworking and metalworking machinery that gives out customer references so you can get an unbiased opinion on our products."

Thanks for the question.
This is a storage issue.

All my tools share my one car garage. I pull my car out when I use the shop. When I'm done, I tuck everything side by side at the end and repark my car.

The grizzly has wheels so I'd roll it to the center and have lots of room at each end.

Thanks!! I didn't know they did that.

Everett isn't very far from Bellingham.

I saw the jointer I'm asking about on a craiglist ad. But the seller hasn't responded to my email.

So I abandoned my search for a 6" jointer.

I bought a Rockwell 4" instead.

Doesn't take up much space - fits right in.

Hey Ralph-- I have a Grizzly 586 jointer that I put on wheels. It is an 8" jointer and measures 27 1/2 from front to back. This includes the fence carriage and blade guard. It is 76" from infeed to outfeed ends. Hope this helps.
