Default pitch removal

I recently purchased a 1 x 8 x8' piece of pine board. The grain was incredible and I don't have a designated use for it yet but it could not it stay there w/o going home with me. The board has a spot where it bled pitch that is about 1/4" thick and about 2" wide by 5" long. Is there a way to remove the pitch other than sanding? Also since there is an incredible amount of grain and pitch with a crack is it likely that the wood will crack or split further after it is put to use? The pitch is about 1 foot from the crack. Thanks in advance!

That's hard to answer! Not knowing how firm it is, I might try a card scraper first. Anything You use will have to be cleaned up, and may still be hard to deal with. If You try to disolve it, it may not work well, and more may still come out. Any other tool will get gunked up. and be dificult to move. If solvent cuts the stuff, It will be over the wood, and the tool as well!
