Question Marvel #40, 3 in 1

Is it the good, the bad or the ugly?
I am thinking of purchasing a Marvel model 40 3 in 1 laminate trimmer. I have read many reviews with many of them rating the Marvel as "great for the $$", "good mini-router", and all the way to "cheesy crap","replaced a stolen Ridgid trimmer, and not worth it".It Am I correct in thinking that the tool is not designed for production work and heavy duty, extended commercial jobs. I plan to use the tool as a laminate trimmer, lightand delicate routing. Anyone care to share their thoughts on the pros and cons of this tool?

I have one, get a Bosch, the Ridgid or one with easy start, variable speed and better name recognition and the like. I have used mine and miss all the bells and whistles a Bosch has. Next time.

Hi John,

I think you are correct in thinking that the tool is not designed for production work and heavy duty, extended commercial jobs.

This sounds like you are going to use the tool for production work or at least planing to use it quite a bit.

I would get a kit with several bases like one of these:

Amazon.com: Bosch PR20EVSNK Colt Installers Kit 5.7 Amp 1 Hp Fixed-Base Variable-Speed Router with 4 Assorted Bases and Edge Guide: Home Improvement

Amazon.com: Porter-Cable 97310 Laminate Trimmer Kit: Home Improvement

DeWALT Heavy Duty Laminate Trim Router Kit w/ Fixed Base, offset base and Tilt Base

Or you could look at a little large like this:

Amazon.com: DEWALT DWP611PK 1.25 HP Max Torque Variable Speed Compact Router Combo Kit with LED's: Home Improvement

Bosh is coming out with a plunge base to go with the Colt. It is in works now, not sure when it will be released for sale.

I have 3 of the Porter Cable kits and two Bosch Colts 1 kit and 1just the router.
I'm looking at the Dewalt kit.

This is just my opinion,
Mike
