Default Ridgid Table Saw Questions

So, I found a ridgid TS3650 on CG today. I did some research on it and the reviews are great. Only negative is, depending on the year, the arbor has some issues with dado blades. Im not in great need since I have my crappy SKIL saw but I would like to upgrade, but only if I can get it for a good price. Hes asking $250 for the saw.
It has a rusty top and in the pics it doesnt seem to have the wheel base that came standard with it.
My questions are; even if slightly pitted can a polyurethane make the top smooth again once sanded and cleaned?
How can I check to make sure the fence and rails are in good working condition?
Any other thoughts on what I should be looking out for?
Whats a good offer for the table saw?

Thanks
Dask

Hi Kyriakos

I would say keep looking and I would say pass on that one,if the top is that bad you can only imagine what the under side of the saw looks like ,you can fine some good deals on saws that the owner has taken good care of it..and not put it out side in the weather,,I did blow the picture out of the table saw and that top is toast..it's a shame

Hold on Bob, not so fast, lets find out some things first... Kyriakos, are you sure the top is pitted or is that just hypithetical? If not then you absolutely can clean the top up, not like new, but still smooth and flat. No wheels? Buy a mobile base if mobility is important to you. Call the guy, or corispond with him and offer $200, if he accepts then go look at it, I have one, (TS3650), and I think its a fine saw for what it is, I also have a Jet 3hp cabinet saw, a different animal. The rails and fence should look good, and they should move freely, then lock securely; the blade raise and tilt should also function smoothly. Anyway, I think it may be worth a 2nd look. Check it out, if its in reasonbly good condition then you will have a nice saw on your hands!

One other thing, I had another Ridgid saw at one point, it was the granite top saw, I believe those are the ones which had issues with the dado blades. My saw accepts them no problem.

I would agree if the table is not pitted you can clean it up and rub it down smooth.
Also check for vibration and run out, simply place a nickle on the table on edge and turn on the saw, if the nickle falls over walk away.

Spray a little Boshield T9 on it with 000 steel wool it should come clean, if pitted I agree walk away.. Ridgid has a new looking version of that saw for sale at Home Depot and other places new for $500.00 and You can find them reconditioned for about $350.00
