Thumbs up Grizzly tent sale

I went to the Grizzly scratch and dent tent sale in Muncy PA this past saturday, maybe I saw you there! I managed to buy a G0513X2 bandsaw, though I was only about the 7th person over to the bandsaws, (as far as I could tell), out of 11 or so only 1 was left, and it was hundreds over my budget. I had been there once before and I knew that sometimes someone will decide later after consideration, not to buy a tool that they selected, the tool then becomes available again. Well, as described by a Grizzly employee, one guy pulled several tags so he could ruminate on which saw he really wanted, at his leisure. That's against the rules, but nobody caught him, so he cheated In the end I was able to get a saw, not the one I had hoped for but better than going home empty handed, plus the Grizzly team came down $175 on thier asking price which really helped.

The cast iron table is busted and a chunk is missing, but I figured out a way around that, with some bar stock I was able to mount the fence so I can resaw, which is really what I was after. I got a 2hp motor, I wanted 3, oh well. There were several other issues as well but those were much more manageable, bent doors were both straightened, a few broken knobs ordered, I have an extra miter guage, as the saw is minus 1, and the upper blade guide asembly is completely missing, but I am buying the euro-design set, so all should be well with world here in short order!

Jack, I can't see for sure if it is there or missing but there should be a lineup tapered pin that goes between the halves in the split in the table. Without it, the table will eventually split in half from vibration. Small detail but very important. As I said before, if it gets the job done, that is the most important thing. Looks always come second in my opinion.

Someone I consider a master woodworker once told me that a master woodworker is not someone who never makes mistakes. He is someone who is able to cover them up so that no one can tell.

Chuck, the table is busted. The plug can't go in because there's only half a hole!

Your gung-ho spirit and tenacity are inspiring Jack! Upon spotting a 'candidate' that is 'close enough' that you can make it work, you pounce!

Thanks Bill, but the truth is that it was the only one of the type I was considering left. I would have chosen a G0514X2 or larger first, but as I said they were either gone, or out of my price range.

That's what I meant by tenacity! Even though it wasn't the model you wanted most, and wasn't in perfect order, apparently it was high time to add a machine of that class to your arsenal of crafting stuff.

Those who are intimidated by the prospect of repairing or making machinery might think of your new saw as a nightmare. Conversely, those who can embrace the challenge would likely see it as an opportunity.
