Question Online lumber purchases

Hello everyone,

New guy here, lots of questions.

I'm wondering if any of the seasoned veterans here purchase wood for their projects online and have it delivered? NOTICE: I do not sell lumber online or am I connected with any online services that participate in such activities.

I have a couple of local lumber yards I visit that have both domestic and exotic wood in a wide range of dimensions, but I do have trouble finding plain old baltic birch plywood.

I've already learned the hard way that you really take your chances at the big box stores (L and HD).

Thanks for any suggestions or ideas.

Roger

Welcome to the forum, I am looking forward to the replies too. There isn't much for buying wood around where I live. The problem with plywood as far as I can see if that shipping seems to only be possible with small pieces. I am not sure you can even get the usual 5' x 5' Baltic birch shipped.

I've never bought any plywood online but I have bought smaller pieces of several exotics.

Can't remember the company name, but they are in Ontario and have photos of each individual piece of wood for you to peruse. I realize that doesn't guarantee any particular quality, but thus far I have been pleased.

OK, fess up...which one of you clowns stole my sig? It was right here a second ago.

Hey Roger, welcome to the community...

online purchases...well over 100,,,, of those, only 2 ended badly for me...both times, seller would accept a return but postage was on me. Both times the wood was NOT as advertised, both times with undisclosed defects. Mostly its been smallish boards used for trim or accent work. Only a few times were the orders more than 20bf. So all in all I have had pretty good luck buying online.
Sheet goods online are usually cost prohibitive unless not available within a 100 mile radius. I found a BB source and keep him busy. Usually try to keep onhand:
4: 1/4
2: 1/2 and
1: 3/4

Check out crlumber.com He doesnt sell ply online, but he does sell it has location in Xenia Ohio. If you contact him, he may be able to work something out for you. He is local to me, and I buy all my hardwood from him. Great small business.

look to a brand called Appleply... you may have it in your area..
create a demand for what you want/want/need...
set up and work w/ a distributor...

Hi, my brother lives in Rowley, MA so I'm a little familiar with your area. A bit of googling reveals a couple possibilities near you - the best bet looks like GooseBay in Chinchester. Seems like a really nice lumber yard. They have 5x5 sheets of BB for ok prices (ie, expensive just like everyone else). They also claim to have a lot of exotics as well. Definitely worth checking out.

Measure twice, cut once and CROSS OUT THE WRONG MARKS.

I am luck to have a good supplier not too far away.

I have not seen any online sales advertised in Aus...
