I am not in the same league, in fact, not the same ball park, or even on a sand lot compared to those guys. Their work is the reason for the word exquisite. One thin I noticed is zero sandpaper. All smoothing is done with planes and scrapers. The difference in the finish is amazing. It is as if you are able to peer into the wood.
What they didn't show is how they keep all those blades razor sharp. I suspect it would improve all our woodwork simply by learning how they handle sharpening. I love using a hand plane and a sharp chisel, but to use it as the wood working masters on these videos do, is above my pay grade.
One other thing I noticed was how few strokes they required to rough out a dovetail. Endless practice, and the amazing selection of perfectly matched (and contrasting) wood.
It was said that Steve Jobs' final words were "Wow, wow. Wow" which seems about all there is left to say about the work shown on these videos. Wow!
The more I do, the less I accomplish.
