Default Creating patterns

I know Scrollwolf used Gimp to create a pattern for me of our Daughters pooch. But what steps are used to do it? Not being a digital artist has its drawbacks.

Never, under any circumstances, combine a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

hi Mike I find photoshop a little easier to use for patterns there are several techniques I use. I mostly do portrait Scrollsawing although i have done the Michelangelo's painting the Creation of Adam.
