Default Reindeer

Technically not done by scroll saw.
I used a 1/8" band saw blade and a Carter Stabilizer.

3 1/2" tall reindeer in curly maple.

I used these plans: 3-D scrollsaw / bandsaw reindeer plans printed at 50%.

I drill two holes for dowels before I started cutting so after I cut the first profile the dowels were inserted and held the three pieces together nicely.

I'll do some sanding and staining later.

Hi Ralph

Careful where you display those.

I made 4 reindeer plus sleigh based on this pattern http://www.scrollsaws.com/images/MiscPics/3ddeer.pdf and put them on my desk at work.

To cut a long story short, one of the girls asked me to make some for her and I ended up giving her the ones I'd already made.

You could feel the temperature drop when one of the other girls realised.

So now I'm playing catch-up, on the weekend I made one, 65mm, using the same plan as you used but it was a bit rough so the plan for this morning is to make another and put a red nose on it. Hopefully that'll get me out of the proverbial.

Sorry, I didn't take any photos of the reindeer & sleigh and that set's already disappeared from work. If I can get her to take a photo or 2 I'll post it.

Plan for next year is to make a set based on the plan you used but to turn the heads on a couple so they're not all staring straight ahead.

FYI there's also an interesting reindeer/sleigh pattern in Compound Christmas Ornaments for the Scroll Saw

Actually I'm looking for something on which to work up some plans for that. :-)

Based on the reactions when I passed the reindeer among relatives, I think I'll make a version that is a puzzle. Slide the pieces just right and out pops a reindeer.

What I passed around was the outside pieces, the reindeer and the doweled section.

I have a year to produce the requests.

Delta Scroll saw

Comments about this scroll saw?
I have just enough room for one this size.

Default Start of a herd of reindeer

This shows my method.
Using thin resawn pine, I make the outlines for tracing first.

The methods on the web show printing and taping. This method by passes the computer and printer - and the tape for that matter.

The large reindeer is from two pieces of shelving pine glued together. It stands 7" tall.

The thin pine traceable outlines take up very little room.

If you do it the same, just say you 'herd' about it on the router forum.
