what an awesome shop, great work. The 240V is one of the first things I did in my ghetto 13x25 garage. heater, welder, air compressor, plasma cutter.....and in your case - the hoist that is likely going in for your car project.
In terms of costs, I use dryer or range cords that are relatively inexpensive, along with one adaptor I made up to plug the heater in at one of the two outlets. The ends are about $10, the dryer cords are maybe $25; so it can be done fairly inexpensively.

The boat and tractor are hopefully out of the shop by now.
