Hello:
I am new to the forum, and looking forward to it.
Iwant to make bee boxes with the porter cable jig if possible. Can I use it to make 1 inch box joints on a 9 inch board?
Thanks

Hi Don

I'm not to sure if you can use the PC jig but you can make your own, just rip up some 1/4" thick MDF and glue the parts in place and you have a 1" box joint jig that you can use with your router and a 1/2" pattern bit...

The 4200 series PC jig uses 1/2" spacing. You can double (or otherwise alter) that by skipping fingers on the template, but you would have to reposition the stock to clean out the extra waste. Marking the stock carefully to begin with would be essential. It's really easy to get confused along the way.

Making your own template, as Bob suggested, might be easier if you're going to be doing a bunch of them. You could even make your own template to fit on the PC jig, so you don't lose the added convenience of stock clamping, etc.

bee keepers pls.

Hi Don:

We have a bunch of bee keepers that have run into the same problems that you have. I've responded and flagged it to their attention.

You might also watch "The Router Workshop" videos at

The Woodworking Channel Video Library

There's one "The writing box" which may just provide the information that you need. Before you try to buy the jig though, it is just a short fence sitting in a rabbet. Dead simple to make and they can be made to accommodate any size joint.
