I built this in 2021 for my mother. She's since passed away but she did get to enjoy her swing for a year. When she died the swing came back to me.

What a great piece. And I bet when you sit in it, she comes to visit (in your memory). Very, very nice work, and given how much we like to sit on the porch and watch the critters, I can only imagine how much she would have enjoyed it

Pity we don't have front porches anymore here in Oz.....
That would be an ideal way to spend a few hours in the evening.

I have the exact opposite problem. Not enough swings. Currently two gliders is all we have. One on our private porch off of the master suite with view of the waterfall. Second is actually down beside the waterfall. But we need about 8 more!! Two down by the larger creek, two on the dock on pond and four for the firepit gathering area we will be building soon near the kids playground (someplace for adults to sit while the kids play). Rural life is great!!!!

Brian, really like the build. Have always thought about building a swing. Had two posts with a top cross piece in back yard. The swing that was on it when I bought the property over 50 years ago. Time deteriated the swing so I took it down. Then rust took the pipe and I had to take them down. Still wanted to build swing. It is still on my bucket list.

Thank you Frank.
My mother had a swing that she painted with latex house paint, she painted everything, anyway, the paint trapped the moisture underneath it and rotted much of the swing but she could only see a little of the damage and ask me to fix it. When I started taking the bad parts off I kept running into more rot so without telling her I cut it into small pieces and threw it out with the trash then built this one. She wouldn’t have wanted to bother me with a big fix but I surprised her with this new one. She loved it and told everybody who came to see her about it.
Yeah, we all miss her.

Looks like a well designed swing. The bottom is nicely contoured for comfort and cypress is a good choice from a weathering perspective. I built a similar swing 25+ years ago and still have it. I try to treat it annually with a coat of Penofin Penetrating Oil as the NM sun is tough on wood. Fortunately it does not get full sun all day.
