Hi everyone,

I’m relatively new to routing and could really use some guidance on choosing the right router bit for a cabinet project I’m working on. I’m making some Shaker-style cabinet doors and want to get a clean, professional look on the edges. I’m not sure if I should go with a single bit or invest in a set specifically for cabinetry.

I also check this: https://www.routerforums.com/threads/european-hinge-for-1-thick-cabinet-sidblockchain But I have not found any solution. Could anyone guide me about this? I have been looking at some rail and stile bit sets but don’t know if those are overkill for a beginner, or if they’ll be difficult to use. Has anyone here had experience with these sets, and are there any specific brands you’d recommend? Also, any tips on managing tear-out and getting a smoother finish would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

First, Welcone @fajipe8034. That's one of the easiest of profiles. For a panel door, you would only need a bit wide enough to hold the panel. This is a tongue and groove set, you need the single cutter, but some are sold with changeable parts so you can use one or two cutters. Here's a pix:

Just FYI, here's a picture of the various edge profiles and what they're called.

Be sure to cut the groove with the good side down. Mark the good side with a little chalk, it's really easy to get a mismatch if you don't mark the front.
