Help!!! I had to cut a small cabinet down and now I need to cut a rabbit in the top edge of cabinet. I am asking for ideas on how to do this safely and accurately.

I am thinking that a fence set very close 3/8" from the bit, then set it over the edge of the cabinet. My concern is keeping the router stable.

I would appreciate any ideas you all my have.

I cut a groove in the end of a cutting board. See if that might give you some ideas on how to stabilize your router.

I can't find the pics! :-(
I clamped a 2x4 to each side of the cutting board. Then I made a jig from 2 pieces of 1/2 inch plywood so the router template bushing would be guided along the path. Then I screwed on a stop on either end. The router had a flat surface to ride on and I wound up with a nice hand grip on both ends of the cutting board.

Sorry I couldn't find the pics.

Double face tape a 2x4 to the opposite side of rabbet and use a rabbing bit that should give you 2" to support the router.

Well, first thing is to make sure the rabbit is dead, before you start cutting on it. That always helps.

See, your teacher was right, spelling 'does' make a difference. :haha:

Got 'er done

Well after some great input I combined ideas to come up with a solutions. I taped a squared 2X4 to the outside of the cabinet, flush with the top edge of the cabinet. Next I taped a piece of stock to the 2X4 so that the edge toward the inside of the cabinet was flush with the location of the rabbet. Then used a pattern bit to cut the rabbet.

Thanks everyone for your help.
