Hi, I have just upgraded to the dw618 Dewalt Kit that I got from Homedepot after my old craftsman died..the problem I have (if it is a problem)is that when I turn the router on and after it goes thru soft start the speed will go up and down by itself even tho there is no load on the router..I really cant tell if it is doing it while I am actually routing.. Is this what the 618 is supposed to do..thank you

I Jerry - I don't have a 618 but it sure doesn't sound right. Mine has softstart and speed control and it will slow down and try to catch up under heavy load but just setting there whizzing around it's pretty constant. I'd trundle the thing back to HD for another one unless someone that actually has one verifies this is normal. 
in my humble opinion dewalt isn't what it used to b. i wanted a variable speed router for my raised panel bits and purchased the ridgid 29302 at hd. u get a 1/2 my hp and the kit included a plunge base. i've had this router for 2 years and it has worked flawlessly. it cost a few dollars more but well worth it
