Hi everyone, this is my first post and wanted to say Hi! I have a quick question: handheld routing intimidates me so I use it mounted in a table. The router is a PC 690. Is there a reliable aftermarket device that would allow me to soft start for handheld use? Could same device be used to control bit speed ( either mounted or hand-held)? Thanks in advance...........Wes

If you do a search in google for "Router Speed Control" you will get what your looking for.

Some routers come with a soft start up function. I have the PC 890 and it has the soft start function.

I know how you feel though when I first started using a router. With time and lots of practice you will get over come this fear. Fear is good though as it helps keep your fingers on.

The speed control units allow you to mount them to the table and you simply hook the router power plug into them.

Here is what my search pulled up for Router Speed Control:

MLCS Router Speed Control and Billy Pedal Foot Switches

Router Speed Control

Router Speed Control | eBay

If your router is a soft start than the variable control speed apparaently will not function as it should. Perhaps othrs on the forum can comment on this as I am not that well versed in the subject.

Hope this helps.
