I am joining this forum because I want to purchase some new tools for my hubby and one of these is a router table, router, and all the accompanying parts and pieces.

He had a heart attack last year and can no longer go out in the hot Florida sun and do the heavy yard and garden work he so dearly loved. He's not a couch potato and can't stand the idea of watching TV all day. So, I said, "Why don't you pick out a hobby you can do in the garage where it is cooler, and whenever you feel a bit worn-out, just step inside and rest a bit.

I started looking at routers and router tables and the reviews by the purchasers made me realize that I needed to research these a bit more thoroughly before buying anything.

So, here I am, prepared to learn from all the experts here at routerforums.com. I really do appreciate the opportunity to gain knowledge here.

Sincerely,

Kathy

HI Kathy

That's very nice thing to do for him but you may want to get him into something a be lighter to do in woodworking ,, the router table is great tool but he will need other tools as well, like a table saw plus may other tools not to say anything about the need to go out and pickup hvy.wood..then cut it down to size..

You may want to get him into wood carving or maybe scroll work..many of the projects are light,,, and small...or maybe wood turning,,making pens and other items that are small..:)

Here's link you may want to check out :)

Welcome to the forum Kathy. He is a blessed man to have you to look after him. I too am blessed with a wonderful gal for the last 37 1/2 years. Bob J. makes a good point. I think Jenelle is a little shell shocked at the cost to "glue two pieces of wood together", as it were.

I wonder if wood turning might be a way to go? A small lathe and make pens other items. I am sure Bob J. will be back and give some more advice. He really is right about the cost of wood working though. The other thing about Bob J is he is a straight shooter.

One thing on the plus side of wood working is this forum, I feel like I have made some good new friends here. As a mater of fact there are two fellas that live with in 15 miles of me and one is 4 miles away. I will be praying for you and your husband, with your permission, and his condition. I know how hard this can be on a spouse, part of 06 and all of 07 I went through it with a torn rotator cuff involving infection and a total of 10 surgeries, mine was not life threating, except for maybe a doctor or two, but I know it took a toll on my wife too.

Welcome to the forum Kathy.
What a kind thoughtful wife you are.
However, I have a sneaky hunch that you are going to get involved in it with your hubby.
turning is fascinating so you'd better buy two of everything!!!!
