Make my decision: dw622/dw621 or dwp611 with plunge kit

I am struggling choosing my first router. I'm not a Dewalt fanboy, but I have narrowed my search down to two routers that likely cover my needs. I will mainly use it for hobbyist furniture woodworking and some minor to moderate construction uses. Maybe once or twice I will use it to flatten a slab in a sled. It comes down to the D26204k (EU version of the dwp611 with plunge base) and DW622 (1400w 1/2" EU version of the US DW621).

The d26204k comes with a separate plunge base and edge router base, is 900W, has a good parallel fence, and 6 and 8mm collet.

The dw622 comes as one 1400W dedicated plunge router, with an excellent parallel fence with fine adjustment, 8 and 12mm collet and excellent dust extraction.

Here is the catch: Dewalt reports the 230V EU output power of both devices is 620 watt. The motor of the dw622 is not that efficient I think? Plunge depth is both 55mm and in Europe an 8mm collet is more or less industry standard. 12mm just a nice option to have, albeit both routers accept a bit diameter of 36mm at most, so a 12mm collet is more or less overkill in my eyes, right?

The dw622's awesome dust extraction is nice, but the d26204k edge router base is also great to have for a small router table setup. Prices of both don't bother me too much, they are both in the same price range here. In the end I am searching for the most versatile router that has best life expectancy of the two.

I'm struggling with this decision for days now. Convince me: which one should I take?

Hi Sledder,
I have a couple dw621’s And they are really nice, probably my favorite router. Power is good and the plunge is smooth. Also the dust extraction is very good.
I have a cordless version of the Dw611. I like that router as well.
The dw621 is a good all around router I believe. It has no problem cutting dado’s, mortises, anything. Id get that one first and get the smaller 611 as your second router to use for smaller routing.

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum, Sledder.

My only concern is that a 620 watt router with an 8mm collet may be a little bit small for the heavier tasks that you plan.

1400W with a 12mm collet would be my choice.

Those router have a good following on the forum.
