New member here and, although I have a good collection of nice Craftsman power tools, I don't have much experience with my 113.23940 Craftsman Spindle Shaper .
My question is what are shaper collars used for?
Thanks.

I have 3 HP Grizzly SHAPER .
The collars are for moving the cutter up or down the spindle ,also serve as a spacers between two cutters . I can run two different cutters at the same time both cutting wood .or space them enough and with the z travel I can cut 1 design .the adjust the other bit with z travel and cut 2nd design ..CAUTION if you do this be sure you have GUARDS around these bits mine is spinning so fast you can't see the bits but can see the wood getting shaped .ABOVE ALL be Safe .another word of caution my shaper has forward and reverse in otherworld clockwise and counterclockwise rotation .so you can have a cutter spinning in 1st rotation .stop flip the cutter upside down on the spindle and spin in the other rotation ...NOW the problem come in that you have to pay close attention to the direction that you will feed the wood into the cutter.Split second to make a mistake and get hurt
FOOD FOR THOUGHT !!!
