Another of the 35 toys in the book is the Gay 90s Handcar. A cute thing 11 1/2" long with 2 men pumping the handles to get it down the rails.

This one will be made out of cedar 2x4 pieces I have. It requires gluing some stock because the body is 11 1/2" X 3" X 1 3/4".

I started by cutting all the pieces out, used hole saws to make the wheels, and did some early-on work on the fulcrum and rocker arm. Pretty basic cut and drill type work. I have a lot of finish sanding on the rocker arm to do.

Not sure how far I'll get with this over the weekend, and we are going north for most of next week where I have no tools handy. This one will take a bit longer to complete.

Well, I got a bit of work done on it. I got the base cut out and morticed the crankshaft hole out. Got the wheels made, and the lever/fulcrum assembly. Not bad for a couple days that I also spent painting 2 rooms.

Today I used the band saw to cut the pieces for the men. After printing the templates and using spray adhesive to stick them to the wood, I drilled the holes and have a dry fit. It's going to take a lot of sanding to get things smoothed out.

Pretty neat. That book is in my WW library, too.
Thought I recognized the turtle. Your work has inspired me to get started.
