Welcome to the forum Ian, I have an early TRA001 and solved the problem two ways. First I made the simple lifter shown and secondly I replaced the chuck with a MUSCLECHUCK which not only gives about an extra 1/2" lift, but only requires a half turn of an Allen key to fully tighten and loosen. It's grip is also far greater than conventional chucks.
